Pivotal is delighted to welcome Dr Michelle Clement, author of the new book 'The Art of Delivery: the inside story of how the Blair Government transformed Britain's public services', for a webinar on Tuesday 21 October.
'The Art of Delivery' uses 600,000 words of Michael Barber's private, unpublished diaries from his time in government along with research interviews to examine the role of the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit after the 2001 UK general election. Dr Clement will talk about what made the Delivery Unit effective and discuss learning for improving public service delivery now. There will then be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Dr Michelle Clement is Lecturer in Government Studies at The Strand Group, King’s College London. Dr Clement’s research focuses on British government and public service reform – how Prime Ministers and Cabinet craft policy programmes and create effective mechanisms to deliver. Previously Dr Clement worked at the British Academy on policy, and at Queen Mary, University of London on strategic partnerships with the technology sector and creative industries.
This will be an insightful event for anyone interested in how to improve public services and how a delivery unit can contribute to that.
The webinar will be held online on Tuesday 21 October, 2-3pm. Please sign up via Eventbrite using this link . You will receive a link for the webinar a few days before the event.
Dr Clement's book 'The Art of Delivery' is available here . You can read an article about it in Civil Service World or listen to a podcast conversation on Matt Forde's The Political Party.
